New York-May 17 - Erie County Republican Chairman Nicholas A. Langworthy today endorsed restructuring expert Harry J. Wilson (R) for New York State Comptroller. At a news conference at the Erie County Republican Committee Headquarters in Buffalo, Chairman Langworthy cited Wilson's business experience, restructuring know-how, and love of New York State as powerful attributes for the office of New York State Comptroller.
"New York State has a nine billion dollar deficit - and it's getting worse every day," said Chairman Langworthy. "The unelected comptroller in office now is directly to blame for the condition of this state - he voted for higher-taxes and higher spending for more than 20 years in the Assembly, and he has done virtually nothing as comptroller to demand fiscal responsibility from his former colleagues. Mr. Wilson, who is an Upstate New York native and who has personally witnessed the effects of higher taxes on much of the state, has extensive experience restructuring failing companies. When taxpayers learn of his skill set and passion for change, they will elect him comptroller."
"I'm proud to have Chairman Langworthy's support and encouragement in this race," Mr. Wilson said. "I am running for comptroller because my state needs to be fundamentally restructured, and restructuring is what I do best. I have analyzed the powers of the office of state comptroller and many of the problems facing this state, and I am confident that I can bring real change as the next state comptroller."
Mr. Wilson, 38, a graduate of Harvard University and the Harvard Business School, is a nationally recognized expert in corporate restructuring. After many successful years at four highly distinguished firms, he was selected to serve on the President's Auto Task Force in 2009 - the group responsible for the overhaul of General Motors and Chrysler. He was the only Republican to serve in its leadership team.
Mr. Wilson, who was born and raised in Johnstown, NY (Fulton County), is the son and grandson of working class Greek immigrants. He was the first person in his immediate family to go to college. He currently lives in Westchester County with his wife, Eva, and their four children.
